As breeding season begins anew in central Kentucky, the Daily Racing Form checked in on retired racemare and Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra. The Form's Jay Hovdey reports that the fan favorite is without a foal at her side for the third year in a row and there are no plans to breed her this year.
“There's always a chance she could be bred again-you can never say never-but I don't think my nerves could take it,” Stonestreet Farm's Barbara Banke told Hovdey.
Instead, Banke reported that Rachel Alexandra is enjoying turnout with two pasturemates who are also without foals this year. Now 10-years-old, the formerly diva-like daughter of Medaglia d'Oro has mellowed a little in her older age and is enjoying people more than she used to, per Banke.
