Drama King wins the Hollie Hughes Stakes

On a snowy Monday at Aqueduct, Rudy Rodriguez trainee Drama King captured the $100,000 Hollie Hughes Stakes for New York-breds with a furious rally in the center of the track. The 4-year-old son of Nobiz Like Shobiz stopped the clock in the six-furlong contest in 1:10.89.

Near the rear of the pack early, Drama King was confidently handled by Junior Alvarado who allowed the colt to settle. Up front, Bond Vigilante was pressured through early fractions of :22.70 and :46.03 by Marriedtothemusic. Rounding the turn for home, Eye Luv Lulu inherited the lead only to be passed by the fast-closing Drama King up the center of the racetrack, who went on to win by 1 1/2 lengths. Eye Luv Lulu was second, and Between the Lines held his position in third.

Bred in New York by Gerald Reid, Drama King was a $13,000 purchase at the Ocala Breeders' June Sale of 2-year-olds. Owned by Michael Dubb, Bethlehem Stables, Michael Imperio and David Simon, the colt has now won seven races from 17 starts, earning a total of just over $345,000.
